Dementia Interpreters Training in Devon

The Dementia Interpreters course is a half day experiential training session where the volunteer attendee in the group will use various pieces of equipment which will impair their ability to communicate giving them similar communication barriers that people living with dementia may experience. Not only does this build empathy and enable a sense of how communication barriers may affect people but attendance will also learn communication never stops. It may just happen in forms that we currently don’t recognise due to deterioration of the brain and sensory impairment. This is the start of learning the language of dementia and provides people with essential skills to effectively communicate with people living with a dementia.

It is apparent the world has a fundamental issue with communicating with people who live with a dementia. High-quality communication will improve interpersonal relationships and make life easier day-to-day for people living with and affected by dementia.
